Tiff 419 Characteristics

As with most Bermuda grasses Tiff 419 Bermuda Grass grows best in warm climates. It will tolerate temperatures in excess of 100 degrees F (38 degrees C) with very few if any problems. It will though become dormant as soon as the first frost in the fall but will quickly recover as soon as it begins to warm up in the spring.

TIFF 419 AND WATER

Tiff 419 Bermuda Grass is one of the most salt tolerant turfgrasses next to St Augustine. It can tolerate up to 2500 ppm total salts.

It does well when using brown water sources such as in the food industry and effluent land applications.

Tiff 419 is Drought Tolerant

Tiff 419 is a very drought resistant turfgrass. It is equal to Common Bermuda. It will remain a beautiful lush color using from one to two inches of water per weekly.

But Tiff 419 Bermuda Grass will tolerate and survive with as little as 1/2 inch per week depending on the soil conditions.

Tiff 419 – Traffic and Wear

Simply, Tiff 419 Bermuda Grass is the best turfgrass when it comes to wear and tear. It handles traffic better than any other warm season turfgrass and is a vigorous regenerator.

When properly maintained, the dense growth of Tiff 419 Bermuda grass very efficiently competes with many of the common turf weeds. It also easily tolerates applications of selective herbicides.

Tiff 419 grows best when its soil pH is between 5.5 and 7.0. It is best to use a fertilizer of 100 pounds per acre of phosphorous and 150 to 200 pounds per acre of potassium. This will provide sufficient nutrient for good plant growth.

Nitrogen should be applied to Tiff 419 Bermuda Grass at a rate of 1 pound per 1000 square feet.
The combination of 100 pounds per acre phosphorous, 150 to 200 pounds per acre potassium and 43 pounds per acre of Nitrogen will provide a healthy lawn.
